Sex... Before Marriage
Sex, the one word you dare not mention in front of the parents. Whenever a sex scene comes on screen your dad changes the channel, but why is sex such a taboo word? If everything else in society has changed why is the word sex still shocking to say in front of your family?
Sex has and always will be a word not everyone will be uncomfortable saying. Some say that the goings on between couples is sacred and should be kept behind closed doors. Some couples disagree. Some say that it’s time for change. In today’s society sex and porn sites are everyewhere on the internet, and as it is very easy to get access to these sites with minimal restrictions, it’s hard to not be curious about it. All Muslim parents and other religions tell their children no to ever have sex before they are married. Most parents assume that their children know about the rules of their religion so they don’t remind them about it. Although the percentage of teenage pregnancies isn’t high in the Muslim community, the rate is generally higher than ever.
When our parents we’re young, they got married in their 20's, the age where teenagers are over puberty and therefore more sexually active. Typical Asian parents think that you should be married and have a child before you reach your late 20's, and youngsters today think the total opposite, they all want to rebel against their parents, do drugs, drink alcohol and fornicate, having two lives is typical for adolescent asians. One for the parents, 'goody two shoes' who goes to school/college/university, wears the hijab all the time and doesn't put a drop of alcohol on their tounge. Then the second life: getting to school/college/university takes the hijab off, plaster on make-up, holds hand with the boyfriend and maybe, possibly has sex with the boyfriend as well.
Some young teenagers experiment with their desires and only tell their friends. Some say they are influenced by the Western way; this may be true yet the parents know nothing of their children’s surroundings. The teenagers think if they can do it, then I can too. In the Muslim community, sex before marriage is forbidden and any type of contact with the opposite sex, even being alone is a room with a guy is forbidden. The whole taboo of talking about sex can causecontroversy.
During a relationship with someone you will have urges, you will want to move the relationship further. Some couples wait days, weeks or even months before they have sex. With Asian couples, they tend to be slightly sacred and wait till they get married before they have sex. But every now and again the temptation takes over, the urge to have sex become greater than ever, and no matter how hard you try to fight it off, you can't. Sooner or later you end up having sex and regret it because of what will happen if your parents or anyone you know finds out. If this is you, don't panic, having sex before marriage is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as you can recover from the fact that you have broken one or your religious rules, and tell everyone that matters to you. Okay you might get shouted at and your parents might get angry but after that stay, it's smooth sailing and everyone will care less about it.
