Binge drinking is a well known issue among youngsters in the UK, which it has been for several years.
Whilst there has been a decrease in the amount of youngsters who choose to drink alcohol, there has been an increase in how much the drinkers consume.
Why do youngsters choose to drink so much when they know it can lead to intoxication?
Around the age of 16 is when most teenagers start to discover alcohol and partying, but while some of them choose to be a part of this “trend”, more and more teenagers choose not to drink at all, which is a very positive development.
The not so positive part of this development is that the ones who do choose to drink tend to drink larger amounts of alcohol now than before, which brings them closer to a level of intoxication.
Most youngsters know what alcohol does to the body if a big amount is consumed during one drinking session, but this seems to be what attracts them to binge drink, the feeling of having no control.
Not only is it illegal to drink and buy alcohol if you are under the age 18, but it can also lead to other problems.
Violence is a common problem which occurs after large amounts of alcohol has been drank, and youngsters get in physical fights with others, risking their safety and possibly an accident.
For many binge drinking is a social thing, like smoking cigarettes, but in fact drinking can lead to anti-social behaviour, quite the opposite of what they are looking for.
It has been proved that children are influenced by their parents drinking habits, which means that adults who choose to drink in front of their children should make them aware of the different effects alcohol has.
Yes, it is a legal stimulant, but it kills more than cocaine does, which means that children should be aware of the dos and don’ts.
