Tanaz Dizaji
Tanaz is the UK Ambassador of Pratham
- India’s largest educational charity with a
mission to erase illiteracy amongst the 100
million underprivileged children. Pratham,
founded in 1994 by UNICEF, has reached
over 33 million children since the launch
of its “Read India” campaign in 2007.
Utilizing its ground-breaking teaching
techniques, the
Read India campaign is efficiently run by
mobilizing over 450,000 volunteers who
currently work in more than half of India’s
600,00 villages. The cost of education per
village is a mere £12 per annum. In her
own inimitable style Tanaz brings youthful
vitality and an international perspective
to the charity, speaking regularly on their
behalf and hosting fundraising events.
Tenacious Tanaz says of her role with
Pratham;
“It is always good when you are a young
face doing something worthwhile for
charity. Although, I’m Iranian and grew
up in London I have a very strong affinity
to India. I’ve travelled there many
times and I love the country. I think
it’s a very similar culture to Iran. And
there is something magical about the
place. And the vitality that I am trying to
show for the organization will hopefully
help raise awareness of the problems
facing children like those in the slums of
Mumbai. I hope to make people in the
UK care about the children of India as
opposed to ‘well it’s not my country so
it’s not my problem’.”
